Acea receives recognition as historical trademark of national interest

02 May 2026

An attestation that highlights 117 years of industrial history and strengthens the company’s identity and positioning within the Italian and international industrial landscape.

Acea has been listed in the Special Register of Historical Trademarks of National Interest, a recognition that highlights the company’s continuity, soundness, and contribution to the country’s industrial history.

The Historical Trademark of National Interest, introduced by the Growth Decree 2019 and governed by Article 11-ter of the Industrial Property Code, is reserved for trademarks that have been used continuously for at least 50 years and are attributable to Italian companies with an established tradition of excellence. The registration, managed by the Italian Patent and Trademark Office, represents an official attestation of historical standing and operational continuity.

The company, led by Fabrizio Palermo, celebrates 117 years of history (1909-2026). Founded as Azienda Elettrica Municipale (AEM) to manage Rome’s public lighting, today it is one of Italy’s leading infrastructure operators, with significant international expansion. The 2025 results highlight a growing company, capable of creating value for its shareholders and of fully integrating ESG objectives and people development into its strategy. These elements, together with financial discipline, allow Acea to tackle the challenges of the coming years with stability, vision, and the ability to generate long-term value.

This recognition allows Acea to further strengthen its positioning in the Made in Italy landscape, also at the international level through the use of the “Italian Historical Trademark” logo, and to enhance its brand heritage.

In particular, the registration allows Acea to: preserve and formally recognise an industrial tradition of over fifty years; consolidate its reputation and credibility among stakeholders, partners and institutions; strengthen trademark protection against improper uses or counterfeiting; support initiatives to enhance the company’s history, including in synergy with cultural and museum projects; confirm the image of Acea as an organisation that is well-established, reliable, and capable of innovating over time. The recognition represents a further step in enhancing the company’s history and identity, key elements in tackling future challenges while maintaining solid roots in the past.
