Acea’s national tour stops at the Tourist Port of Rome

The initiative is part of the Acea Scuola project, which involves primary and lower secondary schools across Italy and aims to raise young people’s awareness of the importance of safeguarding water

The national tour of Acea Acqua Edu Camp is getting underway. It is the first camp to combine water education, sailing, sport and sustainability in an experiential programme for younger generations, with the aim of raising young people’s awareness of the importance of water resources.

Today’s stop at the Tourist Port of Rome in Ostia involved third-grade students from Nostra Signora di Betlem School in Marino (RM), one of the winners of the film contest launched last year as part of the Acea Scuola Water Education project. Carla Consuelo Fermariello, Chair of Rome City Council’s School Committee, and Andrea Aliscioni, General Manager of Acea Ato 2, attended the event.

Through educational activities, nautical-themed games and practical sailing experiences, the students had the opportunity to explore topics related to water protection, environmental sustainability and the importance of adopting responsible behaviours to safeguard a resource essential to life.

Acea Acqua Edu Camp is one of the initiatives included in Acea Scuola Water Education, the educational project promoted by Acea which, as of this year, has been extended to all primary and lower secondary schools across Italy. To date, the project has involved more than 30,000 students in online educational activities and over 2,000 young people in guided tours of the facilities.

The programme includes educational courses on a dedicated digital platform, visits to sites managed by Acea across the country and participation in the national contest “Gocce di innovazione. L’uso dell’acqua nella tua casa del futuro” (“Drops of Innovation. Water Use in Your Future Home”), through which students are invited to illustrate, in a short film, their vision of the technologies and innovative solutions that could make future homes increasingly efficient in water management. Proposed topics include water saving, water reuse and recycling, smart technologies for homes, efficient household water use and new “net zero water” approaches. The winning classes received vouchers to purchase educational materials, while the finalists can take part in Acea Acqua Edu Camp activities, which are currently under way.

The eight-stop tour will involve students from schools in the areas served by Acea’s water companies: in addition to Lazio, Valle d’Aosta, Liguria, Tuscany, Umbria, Campania, Molise and Sicily.
