8 March 2026 - Stage 1
This is the theme chosen by UN-Water, with the support of UNICEF and UN Women, for World Water Day 2026.
On the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day and World Water Day, we have chosen to tell the story of water's journey - from abstraction to distribution and finally to purification - through a four-stage path leading up to the Acea Run Rome The Marathon on March 22. It is a story that also reflects our commitment to gender equality, respect for the environment and water protection.
Each stage explores a different aspect of who we are and what we believe in.
"The Water Marathon": four stages to discover the value of water for the communities.

Stage 1 - The Source
Water is also a gender issue: in countries where it is not easily accessible, women are twice as likely as men to collect it. These journeys take time away from education, work and empowerment.

Stage 2 - Distribution
We are Italy's leading water operator, supplying water to more than 10 million people every day. Water is a right for all. We are the title sponsor of the Rome Marathon and are committed to supporting athletes' hydration by providing water and refreshment stations.

Purification is the final stage of La Maratona dell’Acqua. Through our wastewater treatment plants, we restore value to this resource and return it to the environment through innovative processes.

18 March - World Water Day
Stage 4 - La Maratona dell'Acqua
