Acea and water take centre stage at “Roma Cinema Arena”

The fifth edition of the summer film series opens at the Parco degli Acquedotti. Once again this year, a section will be dedicated to screenings of films about water.

 

The fifth edition of Roma Cinema Arena, the large open-air cinema created by Fondazione Cinema per Roma (the Rome Cinema Foundation), opens today in the evocative setting of the Parco degli Acquedotti. The initiative is supported by Acea as main partner. This evening also marks the start of “Gocce di Cinema” (“Drops of Cinema”), the film series dedicated to water.

Until 22 July, audiences will be able to attend 22 evenings of free cinema, with screenings scheduled every evening at 9.15 pm and introduced by directors, actors, artists and set designers, all leading figures in Italian cinema.

Once again this year, Acea, Italy’s leading water operator serving more than 11 million people, renews its commitment to the event with “Gocce di Cinema”, a retrospective that explores the value of water through three major films that invite audiences to reflect on the importance of this essential resource.

The retrospective opens this evening with Robert Zemeckis’s Cast Away, the story of Chuck Noland’s extraordinary survival after a plane crash in the Pacific Ocean. Tomorrow, 3 July, Lina Wertmüller’s Swept Away will be screened, while on Friday, 17 July, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, the moving adventure of young Pi, forced to survive for more than two hundred days at sea, will be shown.

 

Through this partnership, Acea confirms its commitment to promoting a culture of sustainability, raising public awareness about the protection and responsible use of water and supporting free, inclusive cultural initiatives open to everyone.

Acea is also launching the third edition of “I mille volti dell’acqua” (“The Thousand Faces of Water”), the short film contest dedicated to water. The contest was created to highlight the fundamental role of water as a resource through the language of cinema. The theme of the 2026 edition is “La via dell’acqua: dalla depurazione al mare” (“The Path of Water: from Wastewater Treatment to the Sea”). The winning short film will be screened during the next Rome Film Fest, scheduled for October.
